  • How many bacteria is in Symprove?
There are about 10 billion live and active colony forming units in every 50ml of Symprove.
  • Why do we need these bacteria?
Many studies have shown links between our gut microbiome and various aspects of our health, including mood, obesity and immunological diseases. One of the key roles of our microbes includes strengthening the immune system, providing nutrients for our cells and keeping harmful bacteria and viruses at bay.

  • How is Symprove made?
Symprove is made in a controlled environment through a series of carefully controlled stages. First they boil specially selected grain to create a wort. The wort is purified and sterilised and following this, the temperature is controlled in sterilised vats and the 4 strains of bacteria are carefully introduced. The live bacteria begin to divide and once the required levels are reached, the process is halted and Symprove is ready for bottling once it’s been tested by an independent laboratory. Throughout every stage, the bacteria are carefully nurtured as they are living organisms. The bacteria they use are high purity laboratory cultures which are unique to Symprove.
  • What quality controls does Symprove have in place?
Symprove pride themselves on offering a high quality product. The production process is run to full food standards and each batch of Symprove is independently tested by an external certified laboratory to check that it reaches the stated quality and purity. Symprove is also a ISO9001:2015 certified company. On top of this, the products are constantly under scrutiny within their Research & Development Programme.
  • Is Symprove a natural product?
Most of the ingredients in Symprove are naturally occurring from the barley that has been used, to the beneficial bacteria that make it their home. The only additional ingredients are vitamin C, sorbate and trisodium citrate which are found in everyday foods. Symprove also use natural flavours for the Mango & Passion Fruit flavour having carefully tested the stability of the flavoured product before release.
  • Is Symprove suitable for Vegan?
Yes. Symprove does not contain any animal products in the formulation so it is suitable for vegans.
  • Can people with allergies drink Symprove?
Symprove is gluten-free according to the Codex standard of <20ppm. Whilst barley, which contains a form of gluten, is used to make the liquid in which the Symprove bacteria thrive, the production process is carefully controlled to limit the release of gluten from the barley, and the barley grain is not included in the finished product. Compliance with the Codex standard for gluten free is confirmed with regular testing of batches of our finished Symprove products. Symprove is also non-dairy. It contains no artificial colours or flavours. If you have any questions then you should consult your healthcare practitioner.
  • Is Symprove suitable for children?
Symprove is a food supplement, and therefore does not have the safety issues involved with medicine. We do, however, advise using smaller doses for children, and take advice from your GP if still unsure.
  • Is my Symprove safe to consume if it’s fizzy?
Symprove is a live, activated bacteria and changes experienced are proof of quality of the product that you have received – the bacteria is maximising the benefits of the prebiotic they are delivered on. Occasionally when the bacteria continues to grow it can result in changes such as expanded bottles, fizziness and froth. Your Symprove will retain its full efficacy as these events are perfectly normal.
  • There are brown residues at the bottom of the bottle, is it safe to drink?"
The brown sediments are from the barley extract. It is recommended to give a good shake before consuming.
  • How should I store Symprove?
The bacteria in Symprove easily survive ambient temperatures. Once you open a bottle of Symprove, please pop in the fridge to maximise shelf-life. If you are travelling abroad with Symprove, it can go in the hold of an aeroplane without any problems. If your destination is warm/hot and you do not have access to a fridge, we recommend you fill a sink with cold water and keep your Symprove in it to keep cool. Remember to change the water regularly to try and keep it as cool as you can. This was a top tip provided by many cabin crews who take Symprove too! Before opening, Symprove should be stored in a cool dark place. After opening, Symprove should be kept in the fridge to ensure the live and active bacteria are kept in optimum condition. Once opened, Symprove should be consumed within 3 weeks. Symprove should never be frozen or heated as this would kill the bacteria.
  • Who make Symprove?
Symprove is made by Symprove Holdings Ltd. in the UK. The Founding Team have over 25 years’ experience of making live culture products. All the ingredients in Symprove are sourced and produced in Great Britain.
  • Why 12 weeks and what difference might I see?
This is what has been proven to be most effective in independent research. The results demonstrated that it takes time to develop a stable balance and chose 12 weeks. People experience a wide range of challenges when their gut bacteria is unbalanced. As everyone is unique, they may react differently when taking Symprove so it is difficult to be precise about your 12 week journey. However, overall, customer feedback and our research has shown there are a few key stages in the 12 week journey. In the first few weeks, some may notice a significant improvement in their balance of gut bacteria as Symprove gets to work. Some people may experience some up’s and down’s during this period but that is perfectly normal, so don’t be alarmed and continue to take Symprove daily. In the following weeks, there should be an increase in stability as the balance is fully established. It is important to take Symprove for the full 12 weeks in order to experience the best results from a healthy balance gut microbiome.
  • How does the 12 weeks program works?
During the 12 week programme, you should take 1 full cup of Symprove every morning. Once you have completed the course, you are ready to move to the Maintenance phase. As everyone is unique and the reasons for taking Symprove vary so greatly, it is not possible for us to recommend how much to take during the maintenance phase – only you will know! Many customers continue with a maintenance programme and adjust the frequency to suit their own circumstances and lifestyle.
  • Should I take Symprove during/ following antibiotics?
Yes, it’s always helpful to top up your gut during or after antibiotic treatment to maintain balance in the gut. Whilst antibiotics usually help to get on top of illness, they can also destroy the ‘beneficial’ bacteria in the gut as they are not discriminating. We recommend that you take Symprove at a different time to your antibiotics if possible – remember that ideally you should take Symprove 10 minutes before eating or drinking to allow it to pass through the stomach to get to where it needs to.
  • Should I take Symprove with food?
We recommend you take Symprove first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, before breakfast. Ideally, you should wait 10 minutes before eating and drinking tea or coffee (warm drinks), to allow Symprove the best chance of reaching your gut quickly and begin colonising. If you do eat immediately afterwards or drink Symprove with food, it won’t do you any harm but it may slow down the delivery of Symprove. If you forget to take Symprove first thing and have eaten, allow 2 hours after eating and then take Symprove.
  • What happens if I miss a period of time taking my daily dose?
There would be no harm suffered by missing a day or two of Symprove, but the beneficial effect relies on continued use for a 12 week period to rebalance the system. It is likely that if Symprove is stopped for more than a few days, then it may be sensible to restart the programme.
